CHINA's Taicang Port handled a record breaking 12,854 TEU in June.

Statistics from Jiangsu Province Taicang International Container Terminal Ltd shows total throughput over the first six months of the year at the Jiangsu province port reached 42,830 TEU.

According to a Xinhua report, the reason for the port's rapid growth is due to the development of large factories near the port, which in turn has increased the amount of containers being transported.

In addition, Taicang Port has attracted increasing numbers of forwarders to the area.

The news agency added several large companies in Kunshan, Changshu, among other places, have chosen Taicang Port as their primary maritime facility

Analysts expect monthly volumes at Taicang to remain over 10,000 per month over the next six months.
